Respiratory Protection

Create your written and enforced respiratory protection program

When employees are exposed to respiratory hazards during the course of their work, employers need to address the potential health risks of that exposure. Proper respiratory protection will protect against contaminated air in the workplace environment, including harmful dust, fogs, fumes, mists, gases, smokes, sprays, or vapors. Respiratory protection must be provided by the employer if employees are at risk of such exposure and are not controlled by other safety programs such as engineering or administrative controls. We help employers develop respiratory protection programs that guard the health of employees and limit their liability.

Identifying the hazards and determining proper protection

IEA’s respiratory protection consultants work with employers nationwide to assess exposure, develop a compliance program, and provide respiratory training.

  • Identify potentially hazardous airborne substances and ventilation controls and challenges in the work area
  • Evaluate the need for a respiratory protection program including exposure assessment monitoring to determine if employee exposures exceed occupational exposure limits
  • Provide recommendations for respiratory protection, coordinate medical clearance/evaluation, provide respiratory training, and perform OSHA fit-testing
  • Develop a customized respiratory protection management plan
